Introduction
International Medicare Limited (IML), started it’s journey with the establishment of International Medical College in 2000. The college campus in an area of about 9 acres. This is a unique medical college, close to the centre of capital city, is a place of blending of modern medical educational facilities and natural beauty. The college building, hospital training facilities and separate dormitories for male and female are in the same campus. The affiliated teaching hospital is a 650 bedded multidisciplinary hospital.
Since inception, the organization is advancing with the objective of best teaching practice in the field of medical science to produce competent quality doctors and allied health work force, taking innovative steps alone and in joint venture with native and foreign renowned organizations. In respond to community needs for prevention, well-being and integrated patient centred health care delivery for all ages IML is contributing in advancement of the health, human resource development and health of the communities through innovation and advanced world-class technologies. Over the silver jubilee period IML has established International Medical College (IMC), International Medical College Hospital (IMCH), International Nursing College (INC) and International Health Technology Unit (IHTU).
To organize all those efforts towards the journey of quality improvement through innovation in teaching-learning & assessment, faculty development, quality assurance & research in a better coordinated way under the single umbrella the International Medicare Limited has established this centre with the name ”International Centre of Excellence in Health Professions Education & Research (ICEHPER)” in May 2024.
Vision
The vision of this centre is to be the ‘Centre of excellence’ in the country for promoting health professionals’ education and research.
Goal
The goal of the centre (ICEHPER) is to conduct training of teachers involved in teaching of health professionals’ course and organizing improved learning environment so that the trained professionals are able to act as competent faculty members at the national as well as at the global level with innovation & standards to ensure quality teaching-learning, assessment and research.
Plan and Sections
The activities of the ICEHPER will be operated through following units/sections:
a) Medical Education Unit (MEU) : Organizes the training & workshop for the teachers of the IMC, INC, IHTU as well as teachers of other medical , dental, nursing and allied health professionals educational organizations for faculty development.
b) Medical Skill Centre (MSC) : An excellent centre for both teacher and learner for self-acquiring skills/competencies in the field of medical, dental, nursing and allied health professionals educational institutes
c) Distant Learning Centre (DLC): Organizes Certificate courses on health professions education for the teachers of medical, dental, nursing and allied health professionals educational institutes through distance learning approach
d) Training Monitoring Section: Organizes
i) continuous teacher evaluation and remedial action
ii) curriculum development and curriculum implementation
iii) research monitoring and assistance
iv) virtual media centre, virtual teaching-learning centre, virtual faculty development centre for health professionals’ education
e) Research & Development (R&D): Organize training on Research Methodology & Biostatistics and conduct research activities towards the development of health professions education through innovation
Medical Education Unit (MEU)
MEU is an independent academic unit/ department with staff that includes a range of expertise and comes from different professional backgrounds including medical and educational with part-time or full-time commitments.
The range of activities include teaching, service and career development of teachers and coordination and publication of research. The scope of their activities ranges from undergraduate to postgraduate programme and from uni-professional to multi-professional audiences.

Medical Skill Centre (MSC)
The Medical Skills Centre (MSC) is providing a clinical setting and support for the undergraduate IMC, INC, IHTU programs run by IML. The MSC also hosts courses and assessment facilities for affiliated or outside users. Experienced, capable staffs are available to run the programme offered by MSC. Following facilities are available:
a) The Standardized Patient Program provides well trained persons for all types of medical simulations of common medical problems
b) Simulation manikins/mannequin provides health care professionals with the opportunity to practice procedures and diagnostic methods on computer-based models in realistic clinical scenarios. This gives clinicians hands-on experience and an added benefit of eliminating the risk to an actual patient.
c) Medical videos covering knowledge, skill and attitude domains of medical education provide scope of learning standard, correct and updated practice. The section allows single or group of users.
d) Provider can plan and arrange courses using the facilities
e) There are classrooms, meeting rooms and lecture theatres in the immediate vicinity of the ICEHPER which can be booked to fulfill any ancillary requirements.
At medical skill centre the following Manikins will be used for imparting different clinical competencies—
i) Manikin nursing doll (with multiple options)
ii) Different clinical simulators
iii) Baby manikin for intubation, laryngoscope, laryngostomy
iv) Manikin for CPR
v) Skeleton
vI) Manikin for OBGYN or normal vaginal set
Distant Learning Centre (DLC)
The centre offers a range of courses designed to offer the knowledge and understanding of different health and social care subjects and each leads to an accredited certificate of completion. These courses are ideal as introductory courses for those contemplating a new career or those who want to learn more about health and social care subjects or in teaching sector. Experts of the subjects from country and abroad facilitate the modules of courses. Learner gets adequate and specific reading and observing material. At present following courses are available:
a) Training on Teaching and Learning , Assessment, Accreditation, Quality Assurance Scheme(QAS), Instructional Materials Development, Curriculum Development, Educational Management, Faculty Development, Teachers Evaluation, Workshop/ Program Evaluation, Integrated teaching, Problem Based Learning (PBL), Interprofessional Education(IPE), Research Methodology & Biostatistics:
One week training for each of the issue or area organized by International Centre of Excellence in health Professions Education and Research (ICEHPER)
b) Certificate Course on Medical Education (CMEd): A 8 weeks /2months course with the provision of formative assessment and summative assessment.
c) Certificate Course on Basic Research and Biostatistics (CCRB): A 4 weeks/one month course with the provision of formative assessment and summative assessment.
Continuous Teachers Evaluation and Faculty Development
The centre has developed a software for the evaluation of medical teachers by their students on classroom performance. Evaluation criteria are based on the basic attributes of the medical teachers. The student can post evaluation report with open comment anonymously. The specific teacher can observe the performance report using pass word.
The centre has the capability to assist other organization to run the programme at their organization.
